FirstGroup plc has set up a Yellow School Bus Commission, chaired by the Rt. Hon. David Blunkett, to examine and quantify the environmental, social, educational, time and cost benefits of a nationwide network of home to school transport.

It is reviewing the yellow school bus example of the US and similar initiatives already in the UK provided by First and other bus operators.

The Commission is visiting a number of towns and cities to see how local communities are already benefiting from yellow school bus initiatives.

A report of the Commission's findings will be published in Summer 2008.
