Glasgow 2014 - First supports Commonwealth Games bid

We have signed up to become one of four Major Supporters of Scotland's bid for the 2014 Commonwealth Games. The other major supporters are Clydesdale Bank, O2, Highland Spring, BBC Scotland and Diageo.

The major supporter contract lasts until 9th November 2007, when the Commonwealth countries announce the successful candidate to host the 2014 games in Sri Lanka. First's support consists of a combination of cash, goods and marketing, specifically the wrapping of an FSR train and provision of megarear bus adverts to highlight Scotland's bid.

As a multinational company whose roots are in Scotland, we will do all we can to support Scotland's bid to bring the Commonwealth Games to Glasgow in 2014. With over 8,500 employees in Scotland and more than 200 million passenger journeys completed in Scotland every year, First provides the backbone of Scotland's public transport infrastructure. We understand the demands of hosting such a major event from our previous experience as an official partner to the very successful Manchester Commonwealth Games in 2002.

Mary Grant, First ScotRail's Managing Director and Mark Savelli, Managing Director of First's Bus Operations in Glasgow, have both pledged their support for the bid.
