Brand new connection for First and Save the Children

We have nominated Save the Children as our charity of choice in a partnership worth £1m to help the poorest children in the UK.

We Save the Children, Will You?

Thousands of the UK’s poorest children’s lives are set to change with our exciting new partnership worth £1m in corporate donations - in kind support and fundraising initiatives.

We have committed to supporting Save the Children’s UK programmes, which will impact on the lives of the most vulnerable children living in the UK today. Our support will be used to create three vital new staff positions – Assistant Programme Directors who will work with local organisations in the UK to expand Save the Children’s work and reach the children most in need.

“A million children in the UK are living in severe poverty and are missing out on essential items and opportunities that most people would take for granted,” said Douglas Hamilton, Save the Children’s Head of Policy and Research in Scotland. “The new posts funded by First will ensure that Save the Children has the capacity to develop partnerships in the most deprived areas of the UK,” continued Hamilton who will be recruiting for an Assistant Programme Director. “By focusing on the poorest children and families, our work with partners will develop solutions to improve their standard of living and life chances.”

From this autumn, First trains and buses featuring Save the Children’s logo will be seen by millions of passengers throughout the UK, helping to raise profile and funds for Save the Children.

There will also be chances for sporting enthusiasts to get their trainers on as we will stage a series of fund-raising events throughout 2007 and 2008 which aim to get everyone, whatever their level of fitness, up, running and raising vital money for Save the Children. Anyone can get involved and every penny raised will make a difference to children’s lives throughout the UK.

Moir Lockhead, our Chief Executive said: “I’m both pleased and proud that First has formed a partnership with Save the Children to support its work in the UK to protect children, relieve poverty and improve access to education. This will be our most extensive charity partnership ever. Our aim is to mobilize our 38,000 staff in the UK in a series of fund raising and awareness raising events and activities starting with our First Monster duathlon event round Loch Ness in September.”

Tanya Steele, Director of Supporter Care and Fundraising said, “Save the Children is pleased to be working with First and to be involved in the First Monster Event. All the money raised from the event will be spent on Save the Children’s work across the UK with some of the most vulnerable children to ensure they get the best start in life.”
