Security
Security is important to our business. Our passengers and staff must be confident that we are managing any potential risks to their security as effectively as possible. Our Security Policy commits us to ensuring (as far as is reasonably practicable) the security of passengers using our services, our employees at work and our operational assets.
Threats to security can be wide-ranging and are largely driven by external factors. The most significant risk we face is the threat from terrorism. Additionally, we need to proactively recognise and deal with issues which impact upon passenger, staff and property security. Such issues can range from anti-social behaviour to revenue protection and we recognise that by dealing with them proactively we can create more secure travel environments.
Our Security Strategy
Our Security Strategy identifies the key strategic security risks to the business and sets out the approach we will take to address these. We address security via two main routes:
- creating a culture and climate within the organisation which recognises the value and importance of security; and
- designing and implementing systems and processes which mitigate or address security threats.
To achieve this, our staff and passengers must be actively engaged in the process. In particular all staff need to understand why and how they should play their part. To this end, we have over the past 12 months implemented measures to increase staff awareness and knowledge regarding security issues. These have included:
- regular security briefings to staff;
- posters highlighting to staff the importance of security and actions they should take;
- the establishment of a 'Security' section on the company intranet to provide advice, guidance and contacts for key security personnel;
- pro-active visits to key sites by members of the security team; and
- the introduction of security tours by managers.
In addition the 'Your Call' confidential employee hotline continues. Staff are actively encouraged to report security issues through this Group-wide, confidential telephone reporting system which has operated for a number of years.
Management of Security
A specialist security department has been established. It is headed by the Group Head of Security reporting directly to the Group Commercial Director.
