Community Strategy

FirstGroup is committed to fostering good community relations and making a difference in the communities where we work.

Our community strategy focuses on key issues relevant to our business and on building strategic partnerships that deliver sustainable benefits to our local communities.

We aim to deliver the strategy via three main routes:

  • community programmes
  • charitable giving
  • employee engagement.

We want to support the social needs of the local community and our charitable criteria incorporate three broad social areas where we believe we can make the biggest impact:

  1. health
  2. young people
  3. the environment.

Both in the UK and North America we have built long-term relationships with two key children's charities, Save the Children and Children's Miracle Network. Through our partnerships we have been able to make significant donations, engage with our staff in fundraising and volunteering and create positive impact in the communities which we operate.

Our community strategy facilitates long-term partnerships with local community organisations. Our operating companies have various partnerships with local organisations addressing the key social issues that affect their communities.

We believe that our community programmes provide opportunities to engage employees and develop a range of skills including leadership and communication. We aim to involve our employees in our programmes wherever possible and will measure the level of engagement through our employee survey.
