Punctuality and Reliability Report October- December 2008

Friday 27 March 2009

First UK Bus is committed to running a safe, punctual and reliable bus service.

We are continuously measuring ourselves on how well we perform. We set stringent punctuality and reliability targets, and our regular monitoring of these is our incentive to achieve continuous improvement.

'Punctuality' measures whether buses are running on time when compared to the scheduled timetable. The measurement is taken when buses 'start' a journey. 'Punctuality' is defined as the percentage of journey 'starts' measured which are less than 5 minutes late or not more than 1 minute early. This time frame is an industry standard definition of what constitutes being 'on-time'.

For example - Bus company A has a punctuality figure of 96%. That means that of all the journey 'starts' measured, 96% operated less than 5 minutes late or not more than 1 minute early.

Our Punctuality target is set at 95%.

'Reliability' measures the actual mileage operated by the bus company compared to the total scheduled timetabled mileage. 'Reliability' is defined as the percentage of total scheduled timetabled mileage operated. For example - Bus company B has a reliability figure of 99.4%. That means that the bus company operated 99.4% of its total scheduled timetabled mileage.

Our Reliability target is 99.5%.
