Success for FirstGroup at Scottish Transport Awards
Friday 30 October 2009
Britain’s largest transport operator, FirstGroup, enjoyed a successful evening at the Scottish Transport Awards. Bus operator, First in Glasgow, was named Public Transport Operator of the Year and Mary Grant, Managing Director of First's UK Rail division, was recognised for her ‘Outstanding Contribution to Transport across Scotland’.
Chair of the Awards Judging Panel and Publisher of Transport Times, Professor David Begg, said:
"I am delighted to see colleagues from all sectors receive the recognition they deserve for their achievements which, in the current climate, have been even more hard won. Let us not forget too the key role transport can play in helping the economy emerge from this recession."
Commenting on Mary Grant’s award win David Begg spoke of her leadership of ScotRail which was recently named Public Transport Operator of the Year at the prestigious National Transport Awards in July for its record highs in punctuality and reliability and customer satisfaction over the past year – at 94.2% and 90% respectively. "Under Mary’s leadership ScotRail has been one of the top performing train operating companies in the UK for the past number of years."
Mary Grant said: "I am delighted to achieve this award. I believe it is recognition of the hard work of everyone at ScotRail and our achievements in our first five years. We’ve seen increased passenger numbers, improved performance and investment across the business, particularly in our trains and our stations. We will continue to work together to deliver the best service for Scotland every day. "
The awards brought together and rewarded those who have shown real innovation, integration, effective partnership-working and delivered tangible results.
Commenting on the award win Mark Savelli, Managing Director of First in Glasgow, said: "Winning an award of this magnitude is a fantastic honour and we are very pleased to have been recognised in this way. It is testament to the commitment of our 3,000 highly motivated staff members and acknowledges our ongoing aim to deliver an excellent service, as well as recognising our improvements in punctuality and reliability, passenger growth, financial performance and community engagement."
