The Rail Division Senior Management Training scheme is made up from four core placements, which are:
- Station management
- Traincrew management
- Operations management
- Headquarters
Each placement lasts for three months, and is designed to equip you with the skills, knowledge and confidence necessary to perform a stations, crew or operational management role at the end of the training scheme.
You will also spend four weeks in Engineering to underpin the knowledge learned in other placements.
Your training programme includes an outline of the aim and objectives for each placement and the activity, training required, experience required and the Placement Manager.
You also have a task book, which outlines each objective you need to complete and an area for you to record key facts learnt, activities undertaken, and any useful notes.

The last 5 months consist of;
- Time with other companies such as Network Rail and First Bus
- Time with other First TOCs
- A three-month secondment into the area where you would like to gain your first role.
