Thanks to the investment the industry has made in new trains and buses we've seen significant growth in passenger numbers in recent years. UK railways are the fastest growing in Europe and our bus passenger numbers are rising despite increasing car ownership.
A great opportunity
Concerns about the effect mankind is having on our environment, detailed in the Stern Report, have created a historic opportunity for the public transport industry in the coming years. There is growing political and public support for measures, such as bus priority lanes and road pricing, which will encourage people to use public transport more.
First is Britain's biggest transport operator - moving over 2.5 billion passengers in a year - and we are the leader in providing safe, reliable, sustainable, innovative transport services.
