Iconic Coach Brand set to Provide Services between Poole and London

Greyhound UK, the low cost, luxurious coach operator, today revealed that it is to bring its iconic services to Poole from September 13.

The world’s most famous bus brand will operate six direct services daily to and from London Victoria and Poole town centre.  The new services will also stop at Bournemouth University.  Fares will start at just £1 plus 50p booking fee with journey time around three hours.

Greyhound announced its new services today at Poole’s Greyhound Stadium and were joined by retired greyhound dog, Monty, and up and coming greyhound race dog, Sally.

Alex Warner, Managing Director of Greyhound UK, visited Poole today for the launch and brought with him ‘Barbara Ann’ from his Greyhound fleet to help promote the new services.

Warner said he was delighted to expand the company’s services to Poole.  “Since we launched Greyhound in September 2009 with services between London and Portsmouth and London and Southampton, we have extended our offering to Fareham, Bournemouth and the Isle of Wight.  I am particularly pleased to add Poole to our list of destinations.

“The town more than meets the criteria we are looking for in a new destination.  Not only is it a popular tourist spot, with a world famous harbour, stunning beaches and great shopping facilities, it is also home to many commuters who travel to London.  Our market research has shown a clear demand for high quality, low cost transport services to and from London.

Warner concluded: “We cannot wait to get started on September 13 and demonstrate to Poole just what a fantastic service Greyhound offers.”

John McVey, Passenger Transport & Accessibility Manager with the Borough of Poole, attended today’s launch and welcomed Greyhound to Poole.  He said: “We are delighted to welcome a new coach operator to Poole giving added choice for both residents and visitors to our town. Greyhound will be operating three times a day from our recently upgraded Seldown Coach Park. This is conveniently located alongside the central bus station and also allows excellent access for passengers being dropped off by car, with ample parking close by.”

Meanwhile, bosses at the Greyhound Stadium hoped the launch would raise awareness of the facilities at the stadium.  Jo Clarke, PR and Marketing Manager at the stadium, said: “To have the world famous Greyhound launch its new services at our stadium is a real coup for us.  Our greyhound races are already very popular with customers and regularly attract large crowds, but the added publicity will be sure to raise awareness and attract a few more along to enjoy some first class entertainment.”

Greyhound offers unrivalled product and service quality with a large range of cheap fares starting from £1, plus 50p booking fee, on  Onboard features include leather seating, free wi-fi, power sockets, air-conditioning and complimentary newspapers.  Greyhound coaches have 41 seats rather than the 50 or so typically operated by other coach companies meaning 20% more leg room for customers.

Greyhound will operate three direct services to London Monday to Friday leaving from Poole’s centrally located Seldown Coach Park adjacent to the bus station at 0625, 1155 and 1710 stopping at Bournemouth University, Bournemouth Seafront, Bournemouth Interchange and London Victoria.  At weekends services depart from Poole at 0720, 1300 and 1600.   Services from London to Poole leave London Victoria at 0830, 1310 and 1730, Monday to Friday.  At weekends services depart Victoria at 0920, 1150 and 1905.
