2009 Outstanding Transit System Achievement Award Recognizes Company’s Efficiency and Effectiveness Efforts.
The American Public Transportation Association (APTA), recently recognized the Greater Lynchburg Transit Company (GLTC) with the 2009 Outstanding Transit System Achievement Award. GLTC is operated by First Transit - the leading provider of passenger transportation contract and management services in the United States.
This award honors the “best of the best” among public transportation operators that demonstrate significant achievements in efficiency and effectiveness, specifically in the areas of safety, operations, customer service practices, minority leadership and community relations.
“Over the past three years, GLTC has focused on new maintenance procedures, the replacement of outdated buses and the addition of new routes and equipment,” said Brad Thomas, president of First Transit and First Services. “Their efforts have increased ridership by more than two million trips since 2006.”
The award will be presented during the APTA annual meeting October 6 in Orlando, Fla.
