Assistance at Stations
We aim to provide all necessary assistance to disabled customers throughout our network, whether this has been booked in advance or not.
However, a number of our stations are unstaffed, and others are only staffed part time. It is recommended that arrangements are made in advance whenever possible to ensure that we are able to meet you and help you accordingly.
If you need extra help, please contact us before you travel by calling the First ScotRail Helpline:
Our numbers are :
0800 912 2 901 or 0845 605 7021 - these telephone numbers can be used by disabled customers when booking assistance in advance of travel.
0800 912 2 899 or 0845 602 0346 - these minicom numbers can be used by disabled customers when booking assistance in advance of travel. Minicoms are similar to SMS messaging whereby a request comes up in a text format. Minicoms are ideal for people with speech and / or hearing impairments.Calls to these numbers may be free, or charged at the local rate from anywhere in the country.
Advance bookings can be made through the Assisted Passenger Reservation Service (APRS). Please note that we need a minimum of 24 hours' notice.
The National Rail Enquiries provides information for travel on all services.

Assistance at unstaffed stations
Where station staff are not available to assist you at the time of your journey, our Helpline staff will advise customers calling in advance, of alternative travel arrangements. Customers booking in advance will normally be advised to use an accessible station, alternatively, accessible transport can be arranged to the nearest accessible station. On-train staff are also available on our services to assist customers.
Customers requiring assistance alighting First ScotRail services at unstaffed stations should advise the Conductor/Ticket Examiner who will make suitable arrangements to assist.
First ScotRail will also ensure that automatic or manual ticket gates are locked open when staff are not in attendance.
Assistance with luggage
First ScotRail does not provide staff specifically to carry passengers' luggage, but commits to providing free luggage assistance to and from the train for our customers with impaired mobility, when reasonably possible and subject to the availability of staff.
Rail travel made easy guide
We support the Disabled Persons' Railcard, which offers discounts on a range of rail tickets. Detailed information can be obtained from the Rail Travel made easy guide published by the Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC). If an adult is accompanying the Railcard holder he or she can also obtain the same discount.

Train Access
First ScotRail provides wheelchair ramps on all its trains for use at staffed and unstaffed stations. These ramps facilitate boarding and leaving the train whether assistance has been booked or not. If the station the customer wishes to leave the train at is not staffed and traincrew are unable to assist the customer in alighting, First ScotRail will take the customer to the nearest staffed station and organise for alternative transport to take them to their destination at no additional cost.
Wheelchairs are also available at some First ScotRail operated stations - click here to view station details
We regret that we are unable to carry large outdoor runabout vehicles, including powered scooters, due to their weight and manoeuvrability.
Light scooters for mobility purposes, however, CAN now be carried on First ScotRail services, subject to certain conditions -click here for details
We will review this policy as part of our annual review of our Disabled Persons Protection Policy.
Seat reservations can be made for some of First ScotRail's longer distance express services.
We aim to assist disabled customers who have pre-booked assistance through the Helpline as soon as is practical within 10 minutes of arriving at any First ScotRail operated station.
Our on board staff, will, if required, also provide assistance to alight the train at any station at which our services call.
Assistance Dogs on First ScotRail Trains
Working together with the Assistance Dogs (UK), we will enable guide dog owners to travel safely and without restrictions.
