Breastfeeding Policy
As a company First fully supports a woman's right to breastfeed her baby in public and is proud to be included in a list of Breastfeeding Friendly places in 'The Essential Guide to Breastfeeding in Bristol'. While no special areas can be set aside for breastfeeding mothers on buses, First staff will always uphold a woman's right to breastfeed if it is challenged by another member of the public.
More than 200 premises in the city consider themselves 'Breastfeeding Friendly', ranging from cafes and leisure centres to restaurants and shops. First Bristol, Somerset and Avon is the first transport company to be formally added to the list.
Justin Davies, Regional Managing Director, First UK Bus, says: "As a business we thoroughly support a woman's right to breastfeed in public. We carry a significant number of mums and children on our buses and completely understand that babies need to be fed when they are hungry. Depending on where you're travelling to and from, a journey can last up to an hour, and it would always be preferable for a mum to tend to their child during the journey than let them cry."
