Days out in South Devon & the English Riviera

Whilst in South Devon and the English Riviera...

While visiting this part of the country you'll be amazed by how beautiful the coastal scenery is. From the beaches of Slapton and Blackpool Sands to the picturesque harbours at Dartmouth and Kingsbridge South Devon offers a wonderful day out for all of the family.

Dartmouth

Dartmouth is a beautiful historic waterside town full of varied and specialist shops and some quaint little restaurants and bistros. A walk along the cobbled embankment past the harbour to Bayard's Cove is a must with such striking scenery. Dartmouth's Music Festival is a popular annual event and usually takes place in May which features an eclectic mix of local and international talent performing everything from jazz and folk to rock and funk. Dartmouth's Royal Regatta is well known across the region, usually towards the end of August. The Regatta regularly features over 200 craft of different sizes, from Yachts to Dinghies competing in over 15 events. Please visit the websites for details of the music and sailing events this year.

Slapton & Slapton Sands

Slapton & Slapton Sands

Slapton lies midway between Kingsbridge and Dartmouth and is a half mile inland from the famous Slapton Sands beach. Slapton Ley Nature Reserve justifiably attracts visitors from all over the world, be it for scientific, educational or recreational purposes. The village manages to combine being a thriving local community with being an excellent choice for a holiday. Slapton has two Public Houses, a General Store and two local campsites. Slapton Sands is a beach where families and friends can enjoy great holidays. South Devon's Mediterranean style climate means that the sea is safe, clean and calm, and there are plenty of water sports such as surfing, windsurfing and canoeing to try out. The beach is patrolled by lifeguards during the summer months and there is a flag system in place telling you where it's safe to swim and when to stay out of the water. There's a beachside cafe and has facilities for anyone with mobility restrictions, with disabled beach access and toilets. Slapton Sands is a dog-friendly beach, allowing dogs throughout the year.
