Bus Users to Benefit from more Reliable Information

Essex County Council is pleased to announce that bus users in Greater Essex will receive more reliable bus information from next year, thanks to the use of advanced technology.

From June 2013, the Real Time Passenger Information System i.e. electronic signs at bus stop which provide timetable information, will have been upgraded to offer;

Higher quality, more reliable information based on the exact position of each bus

Predictions of the likely arrival time

The ability to view live data through web applications

Access to information directly from mobile phones

Access to audible announcement facilities at on street displays

The introduction of the new system will save £3.568m over 2012/13 to 2023/24
Prior to the upgrade the current system will need to be removed and from 22 December 2012 and, displays will no longer show bus timetable departure information. The new system to be installed during April and May 2013.
