Transforming Travel

First's operations in London are very well established, having originated from two successful and respected independent companies.

We operate services under contract to Transport for London (TfL) from East to West London from 9 depots with over 1,000 vehicles.

Our experienced staff ensure that service performance is at the top of our agenda. Our results often put us at the top of the London league table, resulting in a service to customers that we are very proud of. In fact, our staff are regularly short-listed at Industry award ceremonies for their outstanding contribution to service provision.

First in London has the honour of operating the Capital's first Hydrogen buses. These zero-emission vehicles are powered by electricity generated by the on-board Hydrogen fuel cells. First was part of the original European trial and operated three buses between 2004 and 2007. The second generation Hydrogen buses commenced service in January 2011 and will eventually replace all diesel-powered buses on route RV1.

First may be operating the most technologically-advanced buses in the country, but we still have a place in our hearts for the past. First in London has operated 'Heritage' route 9 since 2005, using iconic Routemaster buses with conductors. We also maintain several more Routemasters in our fleet for special occasions.

In March 2012 our Northumberland Park depot was sold to Go-Ahead Group. The depot had 130 vehicles on 13 routes. It was sold as part of the FirstGroup ongoing programme of selective asset and business disposals to better position its UK Bus division for the longer term.
