First Welcomes Invitation To Bid For Thames Trains

First welcomes the invitation to bid to operate the Thames Trains franchise from 2004 to 2006. It is in a unique position to deliver wide ranging benefits to thousands of passengers in both the First Great Western and Thames train franchises.
Our aim is to provide a step change in the punctuality and quality of service on the routes at present operated by Thames Trains. We will also be able to implement a fundamental restructuring of the timetable on the long distance routes to and from London Paddington.
Punctuality improvements will be a prime objective but we will also develop imaginative proposals in response to the SRAs aspirations for improved access to Heathrow Airport, upgrading and acceleration of services from Oxford and the provision of additional capacity in peak periods.
