ALAN BYWE, BUS INDUSTRY PERSON OF THE YEAR 2007, CELEBRATES HIS RETIREMENT
Alan Bwye, formerly Engineering Manager at Westbourne Park, First’s largest London bus depot, began his well earned retirement on 11th January 2008. Although he does not officially retire until October, he has stood down as an Engineering Manager to become the Project Manager for the company’s involvement with Crossrail.
The company surprised Alan with a gathering including his wife, son, daughter and work colleagues and a gift to commemorate and celebrate both his retirement and his achievement in winning Bus Industry Person of the Year at the UK Bus Awards in 2007. Alan is well known for never taking holidays and he was amazed to receive a Caribbean cruise for himself and his wife leaving at 0330 the following day.
London and Berkshire Engineering Director Graham Belgum congratulated Alan on ending his career in First on a high, with the Bus Industry Person of the Year award and the title of Best Workshop for the workshop at Westbourne Park depot, both achieved during 2007.
Graham said: "Alan is a highly respected and valued member of staff. I would like to thank him for his hard work and dedication over the past 39 years, which has gone far beyond what was expected and has improved the performance and profitability of the depot. On behalf of the company I wish Alan and his family all the very best for the future."
Alan’s colleagues went on to add their congratulations and thanks for all the support he had given them throughout his long career.
