London and Berkshire Bus Driver Of The Year 2008 final
Congratulations to all drivers who made it through the strict criteria to take part in the London and Berkshire Bus Driver Of The Year 2008 final on 29 June. All drivers demonstrated their impressive driving skills on the circuit at the North Weald Airfield.
The exercises were based upon the 5 Smith System keys and included:
- Driving at a set speed with speedometer covered up
- Taking accurate diversions after reading staff notices
- Reversing
- Stopping at a bus stop with little margin for error
- Juding the width of the vehicle through cones
The top 3 finalists all are entered to the national final in Blackpool where they represent First London and Berkshire. Stephen Nash (Hayes) and Jeffrey Pearce (Hayes) came joint first place, with Stephen Elliott (Uxbridge) being runner up. Stephen Elliott also won the prize for the Highway Code test.
The national final takes place on 7 September. We wish all 3 the best of luck.
