This beautifully restored steam railway runs along the Irwell Valley, along the edge of the West Pennine Moors. Passenger services run from Bury to Ramsbottom, Rawtenstall and Heywood as well as the villages of Summerseat and Irwell Vale. There are spectacular views of the West Pennine Moor as the train crosses the River Irwell, passing through two tunnels en route. Passengers may leave the train at any station, then rejoin a later train to complete their journey. There are picnic areas at Bury and at the Riverside in Ramsbottom. You will also find a regular events taking place throughout the year including Thomas Weekends, Santa Specials and the 1940s weekends.

The largest public arts scheme in the North West. There are currently 30 sculptures by regional, national and international artists, which celebrate the area's heritage and landscape. The works have been developed in clusters along a 30-mile footpath from Salford Quays, through Bury and into Rossendale and the West Pennine Moors.
