What to do?

What do I have to do if I am offered a position, and I don't have a PCV licence?

  1. If offered a position with the Company, subject to you passing the PCV test, the first thing you have to do is apply for a Provisional PCV licence. Three application forms have to be obtained and completed, a Photo card Licence Application form (unless you already have a new style photo card licence), a Provisional PCV Licence Application form, and a D4 Medical Form. All three forms are available from our trainers and instructors. If offered employment on the day and you wish to accept these forms should be filled in immediately to speed up your whole application process.

  2. There is a part on the D4 Medical Form, regarding your medical history that must be completed by a qualified and certified doctor. The company will book an appointment for this immediately, if you are successful with your application, and pay for the medical, which will cover you for both your application for the Provisional PCV licence and you pre-employment medical.

  3. Take a copy of your medical report after attending your medical back to the company for checking and copying before sending the completed application forms away to the DVLA, along with your current driving licence.

  4. Apon receipt of you Provisional PCV licence, you should prepare for, and book your Theory Test through the DVLA and pay the £20.50 fee. Our driving instructors will provide you with the materials and advice needed to pass the Theory Test. Upon passing the Theory Test we will employ you as soon as we possibly can and our driving instructors and trainers will arrange PCV training for you and book a driving test for you. There is no financial outlay for the potential employee for this part of the training, but that is on the understanding that if the candidate passes the driving test, and chooses not to take up the offer of employment, or leaves the company within twelve months of commencing their employment, the company will claim back up to £600, the cost for a potential candidate to go through their test themselves.

  5. Employment for successful candidates will commence as soon as possible, if not immediately, and payment for a five day, thirty-eight hour week is £248.54 until you pass your driving test. After this payment for a five day, thirty-eight hour week is £329.33 per week (Training Rate) for your next 12 months with the company, and £373.03 per week (Big Bus Rate), after this 12 month period with the company or if you already hold the full PCV licence.
