Aberdeen Students Can Bag a Bargain

Students in Aberdeen will have the chance to bag a bargain at freshers fayres as the new academic year gets underway thanks to city bus operator, First in Aberdeen.

First is launching a brand new range of student tickets offering terrific value and unlimited travel from less than £1 per day " and these will all be available to purchase directly at freshers fayres.

The new Student First ticket range includes weekly, four-weekly and 12-weekly tickets as well as, for the first time, a ticket for the academic year (1 September 2009 to 30 June 2010). The tickets can be purchased by all students in full-time education at Aberdeen University, Robert Gordon University and Aberdeen College who hold a valid matriculation card.

The tickets offer unlimited travel on all First services from as little as 99p per day with the academic year ticket. This new ticket is being introduced in direct response to feedback from students who say that they want a ticket that will cover their travel for their entire academic year.

As a result of the introduction of the new ticket range, the Student FirstDay ticket will no longer be available. However, for those who only want to travel now and then and dont want to purchase one of the great value season tickets, a standard FirstDay ticket can be purchased from the driver.

Joe Mackie, Commercial Director for First in Aberdeen, said: "This new ticket range is designed to give students what they tell us they want " longer-term unlimited travel at a discounted rate " and that is what we are offering with our weekly, four weekly, 12 weekly and academic year tickets. The same level of discount will also, for the first time, apply to both college and university students, which is something we have been asked for in the past, so I am pleased that we can now provide this.

"The new student ticket range focuses on discounted season tickets for periods of seven days up to 300 days and, as a result, we are withdrawing the Student FirstDay ticket so that our passengers can enjoy our discounts for longer. However, for those students who only travel one or two days a week, our standard FirstDay ticket " which starts at just £3.00 " can be purchased on board, providing unlimited travel throughout the day.

"To make it easier than ever before for students to take advantage of these great value tickets, all of our student tickets will be available for purchase from our stands at the freshers fayres at Aberdeen and Robert Gordon Universities and Aberdeen College. This will save students from having to travel elsewhere before they can buy a ticket.

"We know that students in our city look for great value and with our new student ticket range, they will definitely be able to bag a bargain.'

The products available in the new student ticket range are:

Student FirstWeek " £15
Student First 4Weeks " £40
