First reinstates student day ticket
City bus operator First in Aberdeen is reintroducing a dedicated student day unlimited travel ticket next week, following responses to its withdrawal at the start of the academic year.
Student FirstDay was withdrawn on 1 September when a brand new range of student tickets was unveiled offering bigger discounts over longer-periods. Following feedback from and meetings with Aberdeen Students Forum, it will now be reintroduced from Monday 12 October at the same great value price of £2.60 for unlimited travel across the First network.
This will provide a significant discount on both standard peak and off-peak FirstDay tickets.
Joe Mackie, Commercial Director with First in Aberdeen, said: "We very much value our customers in Aberdeen, including the student population who choose to study and live in the city and the reintroduction of the student FirstDay ticket is testament to that.
"This is a positive move forward, which not only brings back a daily ticket but does so at the same great value price, representing terrific value for money.
"The new student ticket range, which is proving to be very popular, was introduced on 1 September to reflect feedback we had received from students over the course of the last academic year and the inclusion of a day ticket from the start of next week is a further example of how we respond directly to the needs of our customers."
The student ticket range also offers better value than ever this year - for the first time, the same level of discount applies to both college and university students.
Graeme Kirkpatrick, President of Aberdeen College Students' Association, added: "We are delighted that college students now have parity with their university counterparts and are eligible for the same discounts as Robert Gordon and Aberdeen University students."
First's student tickets can be purchased by all students in full-time education at Aberdeen University, Robert Gordon University and Aberdeen College who hold a valid matriculation card.
