Improved Transport Links in Craigend

Committee Members of Craigend Elderly Forum

Residents in the Craigend area have 82 reasons to smile this week as Glasgow's biggest bus operator improves local transport links.

First in Glasgow today made changes to services 39 (Easterhouse-city centre) and 43 (Craigend-city centre) to provide better links within the local community as well as reinstate a link to Duke Street and improve links to the shopping and leisure facilities at the Glasgow Fort.

The changes see service 39 revised to operate via Glenraith Road and Mossvale Road, while service 43 is re-routed to operate via Mossvale Road, left into Glenraith Road and right into Mossvale Road returning via Mossvale Road and left into Gartloch Road. In addition, service 43 will operate within Glasgow city centre via Cathedral Street and Bath Street rather than Killermont Street and Renfrew Street.

To welcome the changes to the two services, First was joined by Craigend Elderly Forum, which had requested bus service improvements in the local area.

Gerry Irvine, Service Delivery Manager with First in Glasgow, said: "We are pleased to join Craigend Elderly Forum to highlight these changes within Craigend. The changes we are introducing to services 39 and 43 are designed to deliver the maximum benefit for our passengers, making sure they can get where they want to go, when they want to go. By revising these routes, we can do just that for the local community in Craigend and I hope they make as much use of possible of these services."

The committee of Craigend Elderly Forum added: "We would like to thank First for listening to our request for better bus links in the local area and we are delighted with the revisions that are being introduced. These changes will ensure that residents in the local community, particularly elderly residents, can easily access the bus services they need to go about their daily tasks and live life to the full. We look forward to continuing open and productive dialogue with First and hope to see further improvements to our local bus services in the future."
