Greater Glasgow

First Glasgow are involved with the community via a number of initiatives, especially in issues relating to vandalism, as we take a pro-active approach to reducing its effects on our bus fleet. The problem of vandalism is not only a financial burden on the organisation, but also a threat to the safety and comfort of our passengers - something we feel that should not be tolerated or accepted.

One of our ongoing campaigns has been our anti-vandalism bus ‘The Deck’, which aims to promote a strong anti-vandalism message to youngsters across the city. The Deck, through its head on approach of directly visiting schools, clubs and community centres, makes the vandalism topic more tangible to children, due to the fact they encounter an actual bus and meet people directly involved in the running of the bus service.

In addition, we have teamed up with Glasgow City Council, Strathclyde Police and the Scottish Football Association to launch First Football, through which we aim to ‘show vandalism the red card!’ Through the initiative we provide substantial funding to a range of football programmes for young people all across Glasgow, targeting deprived areas where instances of bus related vandalism are often at their greatest. The combination of football training and development, coupled with a strong anti-vandalism message, are the main themes of the scheme. The principle aims are to show that there are alternative and far more constructive options for young people to spend their time and energies on rather than vandalism.
