Transforming travel - Investment First

Over the past 10 years, First have invested over £100 million in new buses and technology for the Greater Glasgow network, drastically modernising its fleet to put the company at the forefront of the city’s transport network. As part of this on going re-investment, First Glasgow has committed a £28 million outlay in 210 new buses since November 2005.

In particular, 113 state-of-the art buses have been introduced on a number of specific routes- termed ‘Quality Bus corridors’. Such corridors will be the focus of the ‘Streamline’ program, which, in conjunction with Glasgow City Council and the Scottish Executive, First have contributed £4.1 million through initiatives such as installing GPRS technology on buses. Such technology allows the council’s traffic control system to track individual vehicles- and give late running buses priority at traffic signals, or transmit predicted bus stop arrival times to bus shelters.
