First receive recognition for Environmental Awareness
First in East England attended the Basildon District Business Awards 2009 ceremony on Friday 17th July 2009. The Awards ceremony was held at the Towngate Theatre and was inauguration of the strong businesses in the South Essex area.
First in East England Basildon depot entered under the category of "Environmental Awareness' for demonstrating outstanding commitment through their Environmental Initiatives.
The company has set in place very strong and dedicated standards to achieve. First were short-listed for the award due to their continued dedication including; introducing employees to the Environmental Management system, which complies with B.S.I ISO14001 accreditation. As well as the depot having gone through many vigorous changes to involve staff; particularly in helping the company achieve £15,000 saving on landfill collections which in effect recycling will now play a big part in the staffs daily routine. For the future Basildon depot continue to set targets of encouraging good environmental working practices for all staff and undertake staff training. There will also be monitoring of amenity usage; recycling and regular site visits to ensure the high standards are maintained.
