Bus Driver of the Year 2009

First East England is pleased to announce another successful Bus Driver of the Year 2009. Regional heats took place in July and two of First in East England winners will be going along to the finals in Blackpool in September.
Steve Lambeth aged 56 from Chelmsford Depot won the regional heat and was awarded £250 and a trophy. Peter Donovan aged 33 from Basildon Depot achieved the runner up prize of £100 and a trophy.

In Blackpool there will be a gala dinner and overnight stay for the lucky winners and their partners. The winner of the national competition will receive £1,500, the runner-up receives an award worth £1000, and third, fourth and fifth places receive £750, £500 and £250 respectively. In addition all winners receive cups or trophies depending upon their place in the final.

Each year First East England receives an overwhelming response for this competition and it continues to be a success. Steve says: "I believe in doing a job well to the best of my ability and the contest helps one gain new and better skills'. Peter says: "I really enjoy driving and am always up for a challenge'.


Commenting on the winner Chris Mccormick Area Operations Director for South Essex says: "I am delighted that Steve and Peter entered the contest as it is such a great achievement. Each year we see many hopefuls enter and progress to the final stage of the competition. Introducing activities like this helps to motivate and educate our bus drivers to assist them with delivering a quality bus service to our passengers'.
