Bristol, Bath and the West

The redemption period for change tickets has been extended from 7 days to 14 days. Passenger change tickets are issued when the driver does not have enough change on the bus and customers are issued change tickets up to the value of £5. A change ticket cannot be used as a way of paying for a journey but customers now have 14 days to re-claim their money from a First travel shop.
This scheme was introduced to combat fraud, where people have been falsely claiming money back through forged change tickets. In a typical month 16% of change paid out by drivers in Bristol was for fraudulent tickets, amounting to £40,000 a year.
Passenger Change tickets will:
- Be valid for 14 days only
- Have an expiry date printed at the top
- Only redeemable at First Travel Shops
- Issued up to the value of £5
First would like to encourage customers to have as near to the correct change as they possibly can before travelling on our services. We will try and ensure that our drivers have enough change for customer needs and reduce the amount of Passenger Change tickets issued.
