Services 24/25 - Results of Public Consultation
Many people were positive about the overall changes, however, some people were unhappy about our proposals to withdraw from certain parts of Southville and Downend Road/Dovercourt Road in Lockleaze.
We have explored all your suggestions for alternative routes including Coronation Road, but found that these would have a knock-on effect for other parts of the route, worsening bus services for other people. On balance, we believe that our proposals are the best solution and have decided to make the changes from September. Full details of the changes are listed below.
Low-Floor buses - coming in the w/c 14 September.
One issue that really concerned many people were the type of buses currently used on the route which have steps at the entrance. As a direct result of your feedback, we looked at our fleet of vehicles, and decided to introduce low floor buses on Services 24 and 25 later this year.
The changes to the route and timetable will take place from 27 September. New timetables will be available approximately 2 weeks before in the w/c 14 September.
First wishes to thank everybody who took the time to write or email us with comments. We appreciate your feedback.
1. Lockleaze
The changes - from 27 September.
- All buses will travel to Lockleaze from the Centre in one direction via Shaldon Road to Gainsborough Square, and then continue via Bonnington Walk and Wordsworth Road
- The route will then change to serve Lockleaze Road, Filton Avenue and Muller Road before finishing at Muller Road Bus Depot
- Services will not serve Downend Road and Dovercourt Road. The closest proposed bus stops are approximately 300 metres away
- In Gainsborough Square, there will be one bus stop for travel towards the Centre and Ashton Vale, and another towards Muller Road. Customers living between Bonnington Walk and Wordsworth Road will need to catch buses on the opposite side of the road than at present
- The timetable will be changing completely to improve punctuality and reliability
- The times of the first and last bus will not be changing significantly and the overall frequency would remain the same
The Benefits
- Better simplified route in Lockleaze
- Buses will run every 10 minutes in one direction, rather than 20 minutes in each direction between Muller Road and Gainsborough Square
- New links created to:
- Horfield Health Centre
- Filton Avenue Infant and Junior Schools
- New direct connections between Filton Avenue, Lockleaze and Eastgate Centre
- Better connections with Service 73 for onward travel to Parkway, Cribbs Causeway and Gloucester Road
- New route will avoid the section of Muller Road between Muller Road Depot and Shaldon Road - which is often congested and lead to delays

2. Southville
The changes from 27 September
- All buses will follow the route of Service 24 between the Centre and Ashton Vale, providing a 10 minute frequency during the daytime
- Buses will not serve Raleigh Road, Beauley Road and Greville Street. The closest proposed bus stops are between approximately approximately 300 metres and 800 metres away. On average just over one person per journey either gets on or gets off buses on these roads
- In addition, a section of Luckwell Road (between North Street and Duckmoor Road) will also not be served. It is a short walk to alternative stops on North Street or Duckmoor Road
- The timetable will be changing completely to improve punctuality and reliability
- The times of the first and last bus will not be changing significantly and the overall frequency would remain the same
The Benefits
- Both service 24 and service 25 will follow the same route in Bedminster and Southville with a 10 minute frequency - simple and consistent
- Improved frequency along parts of North Street and Duckmoor Road
- Our monitoring has shown that most demand is for North Street and Duckmoor Road
