First Staff volunteer to help redecorate a local community centre

First employees from Bristol, Somerset and Avon and other parts of the South West are leaving the office for the day to help re-paint The Park Local Opportunity Centre in Knowle West.

The Park helps to strengthen regeneration in Knowle West, Bristol through adult community courses, learning in schools and vocational training. The community centre serves many people in the area and provides vital links to information, courses and social activities.

Fifteen staff from First are taking part in the challenge on 4 September where they will be rolling up their sleeves, redecorating the centers sports hall and making a real difference to the local community. They are doing this as part of a Cares Challenge through Business in the Community.

The volunteers are giving up their time as part of the companys ‘First Into Management program which enables employees to gain an NVQ in team leading.

The volunteers include individuals from across the business. The team will be made up of inspectors, driver trainers, supervisors, traffic controllers, business analysts, administrators, a marketing officer, and a learning development co-ordinator.

Kerry-Anne Davis - Team leader from First says ‘I am delighted so many of First staff are enthusiastic about the challenge. The Park is an integral part of the community and we hope our efforts will bring about some real improvements for the individuals that use the centre. I would also like to thank Weston-super-Mare based company Winterstoke decorators Supply Ltd for their very kind donation of the 5 gallons of paint we needed.
