Aberdeen Superstar of the Year 2007/8 Winner
Joe Mackie
Commercial Director - Awarded in August 07
Original reason for Nomination
Joe has been working for First for 46 year and in that time he has done some fantastic things to help promote First Aberdeen.
He not only takes very seriously his own duties in his Management role, he has constantly been involved in many additional activities, which have enhanced safety, driving, first aid skills of the company and the transport industry such as the UK Bus driver of the Year Association and the Road Operator's Safety Council, to name but a few.
In addition to this tremendous list of work related activity, Joe has for many years been involved in voluntary fund raising for charitable causes, which have raised millions of pounds. One notable occasion involved raising such a large amount of money for the Princess Royal Trust for Carers that The Princess Royal paid a visit to First in Aberdeen to receive the funds at a ceremony in the (well decorated) paintshop!
It is only when the opportunity presented by Superstars makes us stop and think that we realise just what a Superstar Joe is, in every sense of the words and of the ethos of this whole scheme. It will probably only be when he finally retires and they need about six different people to take on all that he does that his true worth to the company will be realised, but the award of 'First Superstar of the year 2007/8' would be a well earned start!
