Original reason for Nomination
During the summer floods of 2007 in Worcestershire, Josie was driving service 144 between Birmingham and Worcester. Josie noted that the route she was travelling on, one of the roads ahead was completely flooded. Knowing that her passengers would be severely delayed, Josie decided to explain the situation to her passengers and told them that they could use her personal mobile phone to contact friends and family to let them know they were ok.
When she realised her phone credit had almost gone she put an extra £20 on her mobile so passengers could continue to make calls. Following a long delay the bus continued its journey and the passengers were able to get home. Josie said that when she realised the road was flooded the first thing she thought of was how she could make sure her passengers were looked after and felt safe.
Josie handled an unpleasant situation responsibly, calmly, cheerfully and professionally, she kept her passengers spirits high with a sense of humour when required and even passed round her own mobile phone for her passengers to make calls, she is a true ambassador for First.
