Superstars of the Year 2008/09

All Superstars of the Month are judged at the end of the year to decide on a Local Superstar on the Year. Once again we have been looking for those people who have gone the 'extra mile' to deliver great customer service whether it's on the bus, in one of our travels shops, on the phone or getting the bus ready to go into service.

Each local Superstar of the Year then goes forward for the chance to become National Superstar of the Year when a panel of 4 people, including independent external judges, reviews each of the Superstars selected by each company to choose our champion of champions Superstar.

Our National Superstar for 2008/9 is Brian Schofield, a bus driver from Leeds who has received 60 letters of praise from customers in the past year. Chief Executive Sir Moir Lockhead presented Brian with his prize, a £5,000 holiday of a lifetime, at FirstGroup's annual dinner in Aberdeen on Thursday 18 February 2010.

Dave Alexander, Managing Director for First in West/North Yorkshire, said: "Brian is one of our most well respected drivers and I am delighted that his excellent work has been recognised and rewarded at a national level."

Brian Schofield said: "I have been a bit taken aback by all this fuss as all I was doing was my regular job as a bus driver in Leeds. The best part of all this is that it is my passengers who have taken time out to write nice things about me. I have yet to decide where to go on holiday but my wife and I like Malta or Tenerife and so we may start to plan a trip to one of those holiday destinations."
