Karaoke in the Quadrant; bus drivers do something funny for money.

Doing something funny for money...

To celebrate Red Nose Day (13 March 2009) and raise much needed funds for Comic Relief, bus drivers from First Cymru will be hosting a Karaoke session in the Quadrant bus station between 11am - 3pm on Friday 13 March. The drivers hope that the event will raise lots of money for the charity.

And following in the footsteps of Bryn and Nessa (Rob Brydon and Ruth Jones) from Gavin and Stacey, the drivers are set to attempt a version of the official Red Nose Day song Islands in the Stream while they are there. The song, sung by Bryn and Nessa in the BBC 1 sitcom, has seen a surge in popularity since it featured in the show and it is now one of two official Comic Relief songs.

Members of the public will be able to take part in Karaoke too, showing off their vocal talents, for a minimum donation of £1. Anyone taking part and making a donation to Comic Relief will receive a free FirstDay Swansea Bay ticket courtesy of First Cymru.

Tony McNiff, Managing Director, First Cymru, explains: "Comic Relief is a very worthwhile cause and we're doing what we can to get behind it. We can't promise that Tom Jones will gatecrash our Karaoke session, as he did with Bryn and Nessa's, but we'll have a good time regardless. We hope to entertain the public in exchange for some donations, and if there are any budding singers in Swansea who want to come along and take part too, they'd be more than welcome. As an incentive, we're willing to give anyone who takes part in our karaoke session a free FirstDay Swansea Bay ticket in recognition of their efforts, meaning they can travel around the region for one day courtesy of First Cymru."
