25th Anniversary Walk Starts on the Bus!

Members of Neath Walking Club alight from the 'Waterfalls Bus' at Rheola Bridge to start their 25 kilometre walk over the mountains above the Vale of Neath back to Neath. Chairman Lynne Sieger said "This was the first time in the club's 25 year history that public transport had been used to access the start of a walk. It allows so much more flexibility in organising a linear walk and using the bus gets us quickly to the interesting part of the route." Also present were Councillors Desmond Davies and Alf Sidley from Neath Port Talbot County Borough; Phil Trotter from First Cymru; and John Davies, Project Officer for BayTrans.
Councillor Des Davies is particularly pleased, having long campaigned for better Sunday bus services in the Vale of Neath. "The walkers would not have had the flexibility for this itinerary without the benefit of a 9 am bus from Neath and I look forward to seeing more Vale of Neath residents and visitors using the new service."
The additional Sunday morning journeys on the X5 'Waterfalls Bus' have been made possible through a grant facilitated by sustainable transport partnership BayTrans, which is backed by funds from Neath Port Talbot County Borough, the Countryside Council for Wales and First Cymru.
