Places of Interest - Days Out in York

National Railway Museum
At the National Railway Museum you can discover over 300 years of history and over a million wonderful objects. Marvel at the record-breaking Mallard, watch engineering work in progress in the Workshop, see locomotives moving on the turntable or let off steam in the outdoor play area.
How to get there: Catch Park and Ride service 2 (Green Line), which stops right outside the National Railway Museum. Services 1, 3 (Park and Ride White Line), 4 - ftr, 5, 7 (Park and Ride Red Line), 10, 11, 12, 13, 13A and X64 all stop at York Rail Station, a short walk from the museum

Dig
Dig is all about having a go and getting your hands dirty! You can grab your trowel and take part in an excavation and discover real objects from ancient civilisations. There's plenty of other things to grab your interest, like the Dig tour and the chance to Ask the Archaeologist any of those burning questions you have!

Jorvik Viking Centre
Get face-to-face with Vikings! Journey through the reconstruction of Viking-Age streets, as they would have been in the year AD975. JORVIK Viking Centre also offers three exciting exhibitions so you can learn all about the Vikings.

York Dungeon
Not for the feint hearted! Take a trip into the past and discover Europe's darkest moments, from Implements of Torture to The Black Death. Blood-curdling screams, groans and clashes of steel ring through the York Dungeon. Investigate if you dare!

York Castle Museum
York Castle Museum is one of Britain's leading museums of everyday life. It shows how people used to live by displaying thousands of household objects and by recreating rooms, shops, streets - and even prison cells.
Pay a visit to the recreated Victorian street, Kirkgate, which combines real shop fittings and stock with modern sound and light effects, to evoke an atmosphere of Victorian Britain.
