The following information is intended to give you a general idea of the terms and conditions for staff employed as PCV Bus Drivers. If you need further explanation or additional information please ask during your interview.
The Driver's Duties
Stage carriage bus operation in Leeds and surrounding areas. The work may require new drivers to operate from any of the three Leeds garages .New recruits may be required to drive mini, midi or double-deck vehicles, but of course training will be provided. In each case the driver will as part of his/her duties operate computerised ticket machines, quick change dispensers, radios etc - again full training will be provided.
Driver Training
Full training will be given to enable the new recruit to obtain a PCV licence. This will be followed by off-the-job training in Company rules and procedures. Additionally, when first entering service the new recruit will be accompanied by an experienced driver.
The Company operates a system for reclaiming PCV licence training expenses if a recruit leaves within two years of commencement. This currently being £1500.
During the first two years of employment a deduction of £9 per week from your wage will be retained by the Company. This will be used to offset the PCV licence training expense if two years employment is not achieved. After two years employment the deduction plus a bonus, total £1000 will be repaid.
Appointment
If successful at interview candidates will be offered employment subject to receipt of satisfactory references and passing a Medical Examination with the Company's Medical Officer.
Rate of Pay (Your wages will be paid two weeks in arrears)
£7.00 - First 10 weeks (Driver Training Period)
£8.68 - First 10 weeks Bank Holiday hourly rate
£8.00 - Basic hourly rate on completion of training.
£8.30 - Unscheduled overtime worked after 1300 hours on a Saturday and all day Sunday. All other overtime is paid at the basic hourly rate.
£9.84 - Bank Holiday hourly rate.
Hours of Work
37 hour basic week, rostered either 4 or 5 days from 7 dependent upon rota availability. Weekend and Bank Holiday working will be included within the roster. An extra day's work is guaranteed to all drivers if they choose to work it. Additionally casual overtime can be worked when available.
Rosters are designed on a variable shift basis and all staff will be required to work a mixture of early, middle, late or split duties. The earliest starts are around 0415 hours, with the latest finish being around midnight.
Holiday Entitlement
New recruits gain annual holiday entitlement for each full calendar month of employment and are allocated leave after 3 months service. The holiday entitlement being 24 days plus bank holidays not worked.
Sickness Scheme
During the first twelve months employment staff will qualify for Statutory Sick Pay only. After the twelve month period entitlement to occupational sick pay is determined on a sliding scale according to service.
Pension Scheme
An Occupational Pension Scheme is available to staff, subject to qualifying conditions. Further details of the scheme will be made available to successful applicants during the training period.
Shares
A 'Save as you Earn' and 'Buy as you Earn' scheme is in operation for company shares.
Uniforms
Uniforms are issued to staff free of charge and staff can each year make an order for further uniform supplies. Uniforms provided must be worn in compliance with Company rules.
Travel Concessions
Staff qualify for a free travel pass and after 13 weeks service can apply for passes for their spouse and children.
Catering Facilities
A canteen service is available at all garages.
Trade Unions
The Company recognises the 'Unite' to represent the driving staff. The decision to join is entirely that of the individual.
Discipline & Grievance
The Company has well-established procedures to deal with both misconduct and grievances on the part of individual employees.
Drug and Alcohol Policy
As a safety conscious employer the Company operates a Drug and Alcohol Policy which includes the screening of all potential employees before a formal offer of employment is made.
