The last section of the bus corridor along Bawtry Road between Bennetthorpe and Cantley Lights opened earlier this month which now provides improved bus priority as well as better access to the Dome leisure facility.

And now this greatly improved route features five brand new buses, supplied by First at a cost of £750,000.

The buses feature Euro V engines that conform to high environmental standards, with reduced particulate emissions. They are the first in South Yorkshire to feature these high-spec engines and are some of the cleanest buses in Europe as they meet the most stringent EU regulations on vehicle emissions standards.

The buses also offer a range of other attractive features including low floor access, comfortable seats and improved on-board lighting.

The A638 project is a partnership between South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE), Doncaster Council and the local bus operators in Doncaster. First is the leading bus operator in Doncaster and has been contracted to supply bus services between the towns two recently refurbished P&R sites. These new buses will be dedicated to the Park and Ride service and compliment the existing high quality services that First run on the A638 corridor.

The bus corridor also features new bus stops, shelters, and improved lighting and seating.

Brandon Jones, First South Yorkshires Deputy MD, said: "This is a significant financial investment in new environmentally-friendly buses for the Park and Ride and shows our commitment to supporting our partners in Doncaster, which includes South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive and Doncaster Council.

"These buses have some of the cleanest engines in Europe and will greatly support our efforts to lower the carbon footprint of our business.

"I hope customers welcome this commitment to the environment and will look to play their part by using the Park and Ride service and travelling into the town by bus."

David Young, SYPTE Director of Customer Experience, added: "The whole A638 corridor has been greatly improved by these works. These new buses will make a real difference to customers and will help the environment too.

"I hope people will give the service a go and see for themselves just how convenient it is to park up and ride into town.'
