New Regional Managing Director for First's Scottish Bus Operations
Friday 23 December 2011
First UK Bus, Britain’s leading bus operator, has appointed a new Regional Managing Director to head up its Scottish operations. Neil Barker joined First from National Express and began his role on December 1.
Giles Fearnley, Managing Director of First UK Bus, said: “I’m delighted that we have successfully attracted someone of Neil’s calibre, ambition and background. He has a proven track record of delivering top line growth combined with strong cost discipline. Under his leadership we will build on our achievements and ensure further success in Scotland.”
Mr Barker said he was pleased to have joined a company of First’s stature. “FirstGroup is Britain’s largest bus operator running more than one in five of all local bus services. In Scotland, First operates three of the largest and most successful bus companies. Joining an organisation of this size and with the potential to grow even further was an easy decision to take.”
Mr Barker continued: “There are challenges ahead for all bus operators in Scotland, but our aim is to grow and ensure our customers can enjoy safe, reliable and value for money services.”
Neil Barker was formerly European Development Director at National Express having previously served as the company’s Managing Director of UK Bus with responsibility for all its bus operations. He has also held senior positions at Arriva, including in the Midlands and in the south east of England.
First operates three bus companies in Scotland: First Aberdeen, First Glasgow and First in Scotland East. The Managing Directors of the three companies, David Stewart (Aberdeen), Ronnie Park (Glasgow) and Paul Thomas (Scotland East) will report directly to Neil Barker.
