Drive a bus
Are you finding bar work a bit boring? Is your call centre job not paying enough? Well, why not try something different?
We want to give our customers great service and we can only do that by getting the right people in our driver team. You don’t need to be able to drive a bus yet as our internationally recognised training will help you learn. You just need the right attitude and in return you’ll enjoy some of the great things that come from being part of our team…
A fantastic starting salary…
Depending on location you could start on in excess of £23,000 per year (£11.88 per hour). Plus, there are always opportunities for overtime to boost your earnings.
Full time or part time hours…
You won’t see any zero-hour contracts as our people deserve to know exactly what hours they will be working and how much they’ll be earning each week. You can work either full time, where you’ll be contracted to at least 37 hours per week, or part time. The choice is yours.
Enjoy the variety…
You won’t get bored staring at the same four walls in this job, as each day brings something new. Our driver teams are the heartbeat of the great towns and cities they serve, providing an essential service in helping to keep our customers moving. You’ll be meeting loads of new people and making a difference to their day.
Be a part of something…
Our drivers love the atmosphere in the depot – a great team environment where colleagues become friends. Some employees have been with us for 25, 30 and even 40 years and really enjoy feeling part of one big family. And if you’re the ambitious type, it’s worth knowing that some of our most senior managers started off as drivers...
There is also a great range of other benefits:
- up to 5 weeks holiday (plus Public Holidays)
- company pension
- free bus travel for you and your family
- £6 all-day train travel on GWR, SWR and other First train companies

Job Boring? Come along to our latest recruitment open day and try something different
On Saturday 31 August we’ll be holding a recruitment open day at Bath Bus Station. It’s your chance to find out everything about being a bus driver. On the day there will be the opportunity to:
Meet the team – including managers, trainers and current bus drivers
Listen to a presentation from our training school
Take a tour of the bus station
Try out the ticket machines
Do a driving assessment. We are unable to offer the opportunity to drive a bus on this day due to the location but an assessment can be carried out in a minibus*
*Please note you will need to bring along your driving licence and will be breathalysed
You can do as much or as little as you like on the day, so if you’re short on time and just want to get a quick idea of what is involved that’s fine. And if you really like what you see and have a bit longer then we can even fast track your recruitment process with the opportunity to fill in an application (with managers on hand to help out), take a driving assessment, complete a competency test, interview and book in your medical.
Complete all this and by the end of the day we could be offering you a job! We look forward to meeting you.
The day will run from 9.30am-3.30pm. At approximately 9.45am and 12.15pm we’ll be starting presentations so just before these times would be the ideal time to turn up although you’re welcome to come at any other time if these don’t suit you. You can stay for as long as you like depending on how much you would like to do on the day.
How to get to the depot
Bath bus station is on Dorchester Street in the centre of Bath (BA1 1SS). There is no parking available at the bus station. All local buses stop at or near the bus station. There are also 3 park and ride services which stop in the centre of Bath (from Newbridge, Lansdown and Odd Down). If you confirm in advance that you will be attending the recruitment open day we will provide you with free travel on any First Bus for the day. To confirm your attendance and claim your free P&R travel please send a short email to firstname.lastname@example.org and include your name and intention to attend.
