Bus depots going solar
First are demonstrating their commitment to green energy by installing solar panels at their key depots in Bristol. The partnership with Bristol City Council via Evo Energy has allowed for the installation of over 1000 solar panels across the Hengrove and Lawrence Hill depots, with First leasing their roof space to Evo Energy to mount the system.
Richard Northey, Engineering Director, First West of England said: “The solar panels have cut our carbon emissions by an estimated 140 tonnes per year, and we’re pleased to be contributing to the city’s carbon reduction targets as well as our own.
“We regularly invest in our fleet and have Euro VI diesel, biogas and electric vehicles out on the road, so it’s great to have the technology at our depots to help reduce our carbon footprint even further.”
Following the success of these first two installations, Evo Energy are working with First to assess additional locations and evaluate the possibility of replicating the scheme at more depots in the region.
