Customers invited to give their views on improving bus services in Portishead
Bus operator First West of England is giving customers the chance to have their say on their bus services between Portishead, Pill & Bristol. The operator wants to improve services from the North Somerset town and speed up the route for commuters between the town and the city centre.
In recent years congestion on Services X3, X3a and X4 have caused these services to suffer from poor reliability and punctuality. As a result, First has not experienced the passenger growth on this corridor as it has in other areas which means these services are no longer sustaining themselves financially. To get new customers on board and retain its existing customers, First West of England is now looking at a number of options to enhance its offering.
The company is keen to gather general feedback from customers and members of the community as well as get answers to some more specific questions around particular needs of their customers to help shape the renewed service, which will come into place on 5 April 2020. An online survey can be found here and there will also be a customer roadshow at Portishead Library from 9.30am to 12.30pm on Saturday 18th January.
Jade Watson, Operations Manager at First West of England said: “As a bus operator we need to ensure the services we run are financially viable while fulfilling the needs of our customers. As Portishead and Pill have grown, we have seen changing patterns in bus usage and we need to reflect these in the services we provide both within the town and on routes into Bristol. Some of our existing services can be subject to delays which is frustrating for both us and our passengers.
“That’s why we’re putting forward various suggestions to improve the service and we want to hear what customers think of them. They can do that by filling out a short online survey, or by coming to see us at one of the open events we are holding this month.“
The consultation will run from Friday 10 January to Friday 24 January 2020. The results will be announced at the end of February and any changes will be implemented by 5 April.
