First West of England announces service adjustments in Weston-super-Mare
Bus operator First West of England will be making some changes to its services in and around Weston-super-Mare from Sunday 8th November 2020.
Services are being regularly reviewed in order to provide customers with reliable, punctual services operating along journeys where customer demand is highest.
Among the key changes is the increase in frequency during the week on Badgerline service 3 which connects Worle and Searle Crescent with the town centre.
James Freeman, Managing Director of First West of England, said: “The start of the latest lock-down on Thursday is a stark reminder that we are still operating in a very fluid environment due to the pandemic. As circumstances change, we are regularly monitoring what is needed to get our customers moving safely and reliably so that they can reach workplaces, schools, colleges, and essential shops.”
“Our journey planning tools, including the First Bus app and the Space Checker website, support customers to plan their travel effectively.
“We’d like to thank all our customers for their ongoing patience and cooperation as the pandemic is a challenge for everyone.”
The timetables and running times of most services have been reviewed to ensure that services are operating reliably and punctually for customers. These include Coaster services 1 & 20, Badgerline services 3, 5 & 7, Excel services X1, X2, X5 &school service X5s. Customers are advised to check timetables carefully before travelling.
Coaster Service 1 (Town Centre – Sand Bay)
During the week service 1 will return to operating on the reduced winter schedule. Monday to Saturday the frequency will be reduced from every 30 minutes to every 60 minutes, with a small number of early morning journeys withdrawn on Saturdays. Customers are advised to check timetables carefully before travelling.
On Sundays this service will operate every 60 minutes between 0900 and 1700 only.
Badgerline Service 3 (Worle – Town Centre - Searle Crescent)
To reflect customer demand, service 3 will operate on an increased frequency of every 12 minutes between mid-morning and early afternoon, Monday to Friday. The evening timetable on this service has been reviewed in order to provide a more reliable and punctual service for customers, and a small number of early evening journeys Monday to Saturday have been withdrawn.
Service 7 (Worle – Town Centre – Oldmixon - Haywood Village)
The route of service 7 will be extended from Oldmixon to Haywood Village Monday to Saturday daytime in order to provide important new links for the growing community there.
There will also be a slight adjustment in frequency between mid-morning and early afternoon, which will operate every 12 minutes rather than every 10 minutes.
Coaster Service 20 (Weston-super-Mare - Burnham-on-Sea)
We have reviewed the timetable of service 20 in order to provide a more reliable and punctual service for our customers. Service 20 will return to operating on the reduced winter schedule, with journeys operating every hour Monday to Saturday daytime and no service on Sundays.
Excel Service X1 (Weston-super-Mare – Congresbury - Bristol)
We have reviewed the timetable of service X1 in order to provide a more reliable and punctual service for our customers, especially around afternoon peak times and early evening.
Service X5, X5s (Weston-super-Mare - Clevedon - Portishead – Bristol)
We have reviewed the timetable of services X5 and X5s to provide more reliable and punctual services for our customers. Some journeys operating on these services will be adjusted in order to facilitate school journeys to Clevedon.
Due to low customer demand and to provide a more reliable and punctual service, the X5 will operate on a simplified route of Portishead and will no longer serve Nore Road. Customers are advised to check timetables carefully before travelling.
