New 24A bus service to keep Ashton Vale connected
First West of England have announced the creation of a special new bus service to make sure that people living in Ashton Vale are still able to access the rest of the bus network.
For twelve hours a day from Monday to Saturday a special shuttle service, using a single-decker bus, will connect all the current stops served by the 24 bus service in Aston Vale to the new double-deck service at the Robins. The new route will provide easy interchange with the rest of the service into and across the city.
The new 24A will run every 15 minutes from 7 am until 7 pm between the terminus at Langley Crescent and the stop at the end of Ashton Drive by the Robins.
James Freeman, Managing Director for First West of England said:
“After I attended the meeting held by Ashton Vale Together in August and following extensive consultation with local people, it was clear that the long diversion via the A370 wasn’t going to serve the needs of the community, so we went back to the drawing board. I’ve very pleased that we’ve been able to find a way to keep Ashton Vale connected to the service 24, at the same frequency as it is now, and I would like to thank people for their feedback and being so engaged with the process.”
The main 24 service, now worked by double-deckers, will start from the adjacent stop in Winterstoke Road before looping back round the roundabout towards Hendre Road and back into town. This stopping arrangement means that there are no roads to cross – and it works just as well in the opposite direction, as the 24A will wait by the Robins for the arrival of the double-decker 24 at the stop at Winterstoke Road.
In the early mornings before 7 am and after 7 pm as well as all day on Sundays the double-deckers on the 24 will follow the original proposal via the A370 to reach Langley Crescent, as originally proposed. There will be no additional cost for customers using the shuttle bus service.
These new arrangements will apply from 15th September 2019.
