Vote for the Most Scenic Bus Route and win £££!
Bus users in the West of England are given the chance to vote for their favourite bus journey in a national survey to find Britain’s Most Scenic Bus Route. People can nominate up to three of their favourite bus routes online and are entered into a cash prize draw, with a top prize of £200 and two other prizes of £50. The survey organisers have compiled an extensive list of pre-identified routes, but voters are also invited to add their own suggestions to the list.
In the West of England, two services vying for the winning title are First West of England's service 376 Mendip Xplorer, which runs between Bristol and Wells/Glastonbury/Street, and Service 20, the Somerset’s Coaster, which runs between Weston-super-Mare and Burnham-on-sea.
Claire Walters, Chief Executive, Bus Users UK, who sponsor the survey explains: “The aim of the survey is to celebrate Britain’s best bus routes and encourage more people to experience the spectacular views of our rugged coastline, mountain passes, lakes, moors and dales without having to worry about driving, directions or parking. We are fortunate to still have many regular routes that serve rural communities in such a wide variety of breath-taking countryside”.
Chris Hanson, Staff Operations Manager for First Weston and First Mendip is pleased that both the 376 Mendip Xplorer and the Somerset’s Coaster were shortlisted:
The 376 runs every half hour between Bristol and Wells/Glastonbury/Street, providing truly stunning views of the Mendip Hills. It’s the perfect bus trip for a nice day out and explore the beautiful area just outside of Bristol, with attractions along the route such as Wells Cathedral, Milton Lodge Gardens with its glorious views of the Cathedral and the Vale of Avalon, Glastonbury Abbey and not forgetting Glastonbury Tor, which offers magnificent views of the Somerset Levels, Dorset, Wiltshire and Wales.
Chris also described the Service 20:
Whether you're taking a stroll along the beach at Burnham-on-Sea, enjoying fun-packed rides at Brean Leisure Park or enjoying an ice cream on The Grand Pier in Weston our Service 20, Somerset's Coaster will take you there. It runs from Regent Street in Weston-super-Mare and the route gives passengers the perfect opportunity to enjoy some of the region’s most iconic scenery. In Spring people can even catch our open top bus to get a unique perspective of the Somerset Coast and make the trip even more enjoyable – especially for kids.
Why not check out the Mendip Xplorer 376 or the Service 20, and don’t forget to cast your vote at www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/ScenicBus! Voting closes in May with the winners announced in the summer.
