First Glasgow in running for top industry awards
First Glasgow has been shortlisted in two categories at this year’s UK Bus Awards, the industry equivalent of the ‘Bus Oscars’.
Martin Brand, Manager of the First Bus Regional Repair Centre in Glasgow, is in the running for the Unsung Heroes Award and a marketing campaign for the Glasgow Airport Express has been nominated for Marketing Initiative of the Year.
The UK Bus Awards recognise outstanding performance, achievements and ground breaking projects delivered by the bus industry.
Martin Brand, from Bishopbriggs, leads a highly skilled team of 30 colleagues at First Glasgow’s state-of-the-art Caledonia Depot Regional Repair Centre. He and his team provide round-the-clock major repair and support for the three First Bus Scottish companies - First Glasgow, First Aberdeen and First Scotland East. He started his career in the bus industry 36 years ago and has worked his way up to a key management role.
Martin said: “I’m honoured to be shortlisted for this prestigious award. However, while it’s my name on the shortlist, I really feel that this nomination is testimony to the great work done by the team who are operating to the highest standards and supporting the business in providing a service to our customers. So I’m delighted to be representing them at the UK Bus Awards finals.”
The Glasgow Airport Express service has been nominated for the Marketing Initiative of the Year. The service has proved hugely popular since it was launched in July 2016. The online and offline campaign highlighted key features including the appeal of a fast and frequent service on 10 new state-of-the-art vehicles, a unique airline-industry inspired brand identity and the latest technology, featuring complementary 4G Wi-Fi and USB charging points.
First Glasgow Managing Director, Andrew Jarvis, said: “We’re very proud to have our colleague Martin Brand and the marketing campaign for the Glasgow Airport Express shortlisted in the UK Bus Awards.
“These awards recognise the best in the industry and Martin’s place in the shortlist is a tribute to his great talent, experience and development of an excellent team.
“It’s also deeply rewarding to have our Glasgow Airport Express service nominated in the Marketing category. This is a high quality service which has been a big success with customers since its introduction. Our marketing activity has covered a multitude of online and offline channels including branded stances and bus shelters.”
First Bus has been nominated for eight prizes in this year’s UK Bus Awards and this includes Paul Branigan, Engineering Manager at First Scotland East, who has been shortlisted in the Engineer of the Year category. The winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on Tuesday, 21 November 2017.
