Meet Ricardo - First Glasgow's cute contactless mascot
Lovable First Glasgow mascot Ricardo has been turning heads in the city as he enjoyed his first day out to promote contactless payments on all of our services.
The giant card-shaped character proved a hit with young and old alike as he toured the city and stopped at key landmarks along the way to highlight quick and easy payments on services run by the city’s biggest bus operator.
Ricardo, aka ‘Mr Contactless’, tapped into Glaswegians’ natural sense of humour as he stopped off at iconic locations including the SECC and SSE Hydro, the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, Buchanan Street, George Square and the Barrowlands. He also hopped on First Glasgow buses, to the delight of passengers.
First Glasgow sees contactless payments as a way of speeding up boarding times and making the journey even easier for customers by reducing the need for cash on buses. It is also accepting Apple Pay and Android Pay as part of the contactless roll-out.
The launch of contactless follows the introduction of mobile payment by First Bus mTickets, and the roll-out of a new First Bus multi-modal journey planning app earlier this year.
Earlier this week, Humza Yousaf MSP, Minister for Transport and the Islands, hailed the introduction of contactless payment technology on all First Glasgow buses and said the new payment and ticketing options are an important factor in encouraging people to choose public transport.
Andrew Jarvis, Managing Director of First Bus in Scotland, said: “We’re delighted with the warm reception Ricardo has received but more importantly the great welcome customers have given to the introduction of contactless payments on all of our vehicles.
“We want to make bus travel as easy as possible for the people of the city and contactless travel, alongside our mobile mTickets, free on-board Wi-fi and our new journey planner app, all add to improving the travel experience.”
