Clean Air Day
Clean Air Day is a national day of raising awareness of air pollution and its affects on air quality, the environment and our health. We can all do our bit to help make the air cleaner and healthier.
Air pollution is made up of harmful gases such as carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide and sulphur dioxide, which come from a variety of sources, one of which is vehicle emissions. This is where we can help - helping to reduce the amount of vehicles and traffic on our roads can help to cut down the amount of air pollution.
Bus users are already doing their bit to help reduce the number of cars on our roads.
Did you know?
- Without buses, congestion in city centres would be a fifth (21%) higher at peak times, significantly impacting air quality
- Switching just one car journey in 25 can remove one billion car journeys from our roads & result in a reduction of two million tonnes of Carbon Dioxide
- A full double decker bus can take up to 75 cars off the road
- Our mobile phone tickets can help to speed up boarding times by 400%, reduce the amount of time a bus is waiting with the engine on and reducing the amount of exhaust fumes in the air.
