Free travel for older people
What's your concessionary confession?
Enjoy free travel on bus journeys across Greater Manchester with a national concessionary bus pass. What you do with it is up to you!
The pass gives you free travel between 9:30am and midnight*, Monday - Friday, and all day at weekends and public holidays, throughout Greater Manchester and some neighbouring towns. You should touch your card on the reader next to the ticket machine each time you board a bus, this checks the pass is valid and records your journey.
If your pass doesn't work or you travel outside of these times, you must pay full adult bus fare.
Are you eligible?
Anyone who qualifies for a state pension and lives in Greater Manchester can apply for the concessionary travel pass from Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM).
The age when you qualify for a state pension depends on the year you were born. Check your state pension age to see when you'll be eligible for free bus travel.
How to apply
The concessionary pass is issued by TfGM. You can apply by completing an application form and returning it with proof of age and address, as well as a passport-sized colour photo.
Application forms can be downloaded from tfgm.com or pick one up from any TfGM TravelShop. Once completed, return to the freepost address included on the form. Please allow 10 working days for your pass to arrive.
